The telematics (i.e. the multidisciplinary integration of telecommunication, automation and information technology) uses technologies to provide services at remote locations.
What is telematics?
The image shows the major elements of the telematics loop. The spatial distance is bridged by using a communication route. By utilizing a man-machine interface, the tele-operator will be connected to the system at the location "A". The target system, e.g. a machine, at the remote location "B" will be adapted by sensors and actuators and it becomes controllable by utilizing automation and control systems. The four competence fields of the man-machine interface, telecommunication, automation and system integration, work together in telematics solutions. Applications in very different areas, such as the industrial remote maintenance, remote control of robots, medicine, space travel, traffic and tele education, can be realized on this multidisciplinary basis.
