During the International Astronautics Congress 2025 in Sydney, the chairman and founder of the Zentrum für Telematik, Prof. Dr. Klaus Schilling, was honored with the Engineering Sciences Section Award 2025.

The jury of this year’s award ceremony recognized Schilling’s groundbreaking pioneering work in the field of small satellite research. The Engineering Sciences Section Award is considered the highest engineering science award of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA).

Twenty years ago, the first German pico-satellite, UWE-1, was sent into space under the direction of Prof. Schilling, laying the foundation for distributed satellite networks in orbit.
