The Zentrum für Telematik (ZfT) was recently the subject of a television report in the Frankenschau of Bayerischer Rundfunk (from minute 01:06). A BR camera team accompanied the work of the researchers at the ZfT and provided insights into the development, construction, and operation of small satellites. Following the report, ZfT board member Klaus Schilling was also a guest in the Frankenschau studio, where he discussed and contextualized the content shown.
The report vividly illustrates how the ZfT is working on the future of spaceflight. A particular focus was placed on the automated construction of small satellites in the research factory and their integration in the cleanroom.
The program also highlighted the evolution of space research in Würzburg since the launch of the first German small satellite, UWE-1, of Universität Würzburg more than ten years ago. The year 2026 marks another milestone for German spaceflight. Later this year, ten small satellites of the Zentrum für Telematik will be launched. This will set a new German record. Even though these are small satellites, this step represents a significant advance for national space research and the space industry.
We are very pleased about the coverage by Bayerischer Rundfunk and the detailed report in the Frankenschau. It conveys an authentic impression of the work carried out at the ZfT, highlights the importance of automated satellite manufacturing, and demonstrates that forward-looking space research is being successfully driven from Würzburg.
